Ordered this pack for a 3 week backpacking trip on the AT. Wanted something with enough space for my gear but not too expensive because I wasn't sure if I'd stick with the hobby after this trip. The backpack survived the trip, but it did take some damage and display some faults. First, the rain cover is only big enough to cover the pack itself. So if you have anything hanging on the outside, like a sleeping bag, the cover becomes useless. Second, a few of the straps ripped. This could be because I kept them very tight, but still, not something you want to happen on a long backpacking trip. Third, the hip belt is very uncomfortable. It is tiny and it doesn't do a great job of keeping the pack up on your hips. After 8 hours of hiking and constantly shrugging to keep the pack from hanging completely on my shoulders, it became a nuisance. Overall though, I got what I wanted. The pack survived the trip and I was able to leave the trail without carrying everything in my arms. In the future though, I will be buying a more dependable, long-lasting, pack. It will be more expensive than this one, but now that I'm in love with the trail, it will be worth it.
This pack is great quality for the price. Overall a great pack and to get something better you have to spend somewhere in the $200+ range. My only complaint is that the adjustable back padding could be a little better (for shorter hikers) but for taller people it's a non-issue. An excellent choice for all but the most serious hikers.
